Living in Woodland Park

What it's like to live in Woodland Park

Woodland Park is Teller County's largest town. About 8,000 people live here at roughly 8,500 feet, surrounded by Pike National Forest on the north side of Pikes Peak. It was founded in 1887 and grew up around the Colorado Midland Railway and a handful of sawmills. The town motto is "the city above the clouds."

US 24 is the main road. It climbs Ute Pass from Colorado Springs, about 18 miles east, and many residents make that commute. Midland Avenue is the historic main street, and Memorial Park hosts a summer farmers market. Mueller State Park, Rampart Reservoir, and Florissant Fossil Beds are all within about half an hour.

It suits people who want a real mountain town with everyday services and a reasonable drive to Colorado Springs jobs. Expect pine forest, cooler summers, and true high-altitude living.
