Living in Avon

What it's like to live in Avon

Avon is a town on the Eagle River at the foot of Beaver Creek, incorporated in 1978. It started as a railroad stop in 1889. Today it has grocery stores, Nottingham Lake and Park, and the Riverfront Express Gondola up to Beaver Creek. It is one of the more year-round places in the valley, with summer concerts at the park pavilion and paddling on the lake.

Homes range from condos near the town center and the Westin Riverfront to houses and duplexes in Wildridge, up the hill north of I-70. Mountain Star, one drainage east of Wildridge, is gated, with about 90 homes on three- to four-acre lots across roughly 1,300 acres. Prices sit below Vail and Beaver Creek for similar homes, but this is still a high-cost valley.

Short-term rentals are only allowed in the town's short-term rental overlay zone and need a town license, so check the zoning before you buy for rental income. Wildridge and Mountain Star sit about 1,650 feet above town on Metcalf Road, which means steep winter driving. I-70 runs right through town. I live on the Front Range, so for Avon I team up with a local agent I trust and stay with you through the whole move.
