Living in Jackson
What it's like to live in Jackson
Jackson is the only incorporated town in Teton County and the place most people mean when they say Jackson Hole. Town Square, with an elk antler arch on each corner, is the center of it all. Snow King Mountain rises right off the southeast edge of town, and the National Elk Refuge borders it. Year-round, this is where the groceries, the hospital, the schools, and most of the jobs are.
Homes in town are mostly condos, townhomes, and older single-family houses on small lots, with more space in South Park and north toward the airport. Prices are high even by mountain standards. Zillow put Jackson's average home value at about $1.91 million as of September 2025, as cited on Wikipedia. Deed-restricted workforce homes through the Teton County Housing Department are a big part of how locals buy here.
Expect summer crowds and tight parking downtown. Short-term rentals are allowed in the lodging overlay and the Snow King Resort District, and residential zones now allow only limited rentals with a permit and HOA approval. All new construction goes through the wildfire code review. I'm licensed in Colorado only, so for Jackson I refer you to a local Wyoming agent I trust and stay with you through the whole move.
