Living in Copper Mountain
What it's like to live in Copper Mountain
Copper Mountain is a ski village on I-70 about 75 miles west of Denver. The resort opened in November 1972 and has been owned by POWDR since 2009. The terrain is laid out by difficulty, with easier runs on the west side and harder runs as you move east. It has been an official U.S. Ski Team downhill training venue since the 2011 to 2012 season, and the Eagles Nest Wilderness sits right to the north.
Copper isn't a town. It's unincorporated Summit County, and most homes are condos in three base villages: Center, East, and West. Single-family homes are rare, and the county assessor's review of sales from July 2022 to June 2024 put their median at about $3.3 million, as reported by Summit Daily. At the other end, a deed-restricted condo at Telemark Lodge sold for $260,000 in May 2023.
Copper is in the county's Resort Overlay Zone, so short-term rentals there don't face the night and booking limits of other county areas, though you still need a county license and your HOA may have rules. Daily life is resort-focused, and bigger errands mean a drive to Frisco or beyond. I live on the Front Range, so for Copper Mountain I team up with a local agent I trust and stay with you through the whole move.
